So I started playing the soccer management simulator called Hattrick. You are assigned a team with random fictional players and you try to work your way up from the lowest level to the highest. There are many leagues spread out around the world (nearly one million users world wide). Once you reach the upper levels in your region you can play in international tournaments. You can also arrange friendly matches with people from other countries. You buy and sell players, set formations and tactics for your matches, train players, etc. You play one league match a week. One season is 16 weeks long. The game is now in its 10th year. Its pretty fun if you are into sports and/or simulators. And its free.
If you want to, you can pay for the supporters package which will give you some extra tools, but doesn't necessarily give you an "on the field" advantage. One of the bonuses is that you can have a team logo. A friend of mine is a supporter (I haven't decided if I want to go that route). He designed himself logo, which I was pretty impressed with considering his assumed lack of design skill and had never really used photoshop before. Since I haven't decided on a final team name yet, I decided to test some ideas out on his logo. I thought it would be neat to make it look like a badge/patch that would go on a uniform..
His original design / My treatment

of course he will be changing his team name at the end of the season, but I knew that before doing this. All the stitching is hand drawn in photoshop. The background "fabric" was done with a number of filters. |
